Summary

We’re looking for an experienced and commercially driven Senior Commercial Manager to join our team on a major long-term infrastructure and engineering programme in Derby.

This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role on one of the UK’s most technically demanding and strategically important projects, taking responsibility for commercial performance, contractual governance, risk management and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

Working across office and project environments, you'll provide commercial leadership to a complex delivery programme, supporting operational teams, managing key commercial relationships, and ensuring successful project outcomes through effective contract administration, commercial controls and strategic decision-making.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with client representatives, consultants, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as the senior commercial point of contact across the project.
  • Build collaborative relationships that support successful project delivery and long-term business objectives.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with key stakeholders and supply chain partners.
  • Influence senior project stakeholders to achieve commercially beneficial outcomes.
  • Promote a collaborative working culture across all project functions.
  • Support customer engagement activities and identify opportunities to strengthen strategic relationships.

  • Ensure accurate forecasting of costs, value, cash flow and financial performance.
  • Lead monthly commercial reviews and reporting activities.
  • Support the preparation of management accounts and financial performance reporting.
  • Monitor project margins and implement actions to maximise commercial performance.

  • Lead the management of commercial risk and opportunity processes.
  • Maintain accurate project risk and opportunity registers.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate commercial risks.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximise opportunities and improve project outcomes.
  • Ensure commercial risks are reported accurately and proactively managed throughout the project lifecycle.
Contract & Supply Chain Management
  • Oversee subcontract procurement, contract administration and commercial management activities.
  • Manage key subcontractor and supplier relationships.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are understood, implemented and maintained.
  • Support the successful agreement of interim valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Ensure all commercial records, notices and documentation are maintained in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Protect the commercial interests of the business whilst maintaining productive stakeholder relationships.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Provide leadership and direction to commercial teams working across the project.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Coach, mentor and develop commercial professionals to maximise performance and career development.
  • Ensure team objectives align with project and business requirements.
  • Support succession planning and talent development activities.
Change Management & Commercial Control
  • Lead the commercial management of project change.
  • Ensure variations and compensation events are identified, valued and agreed in a timely manner.

  • Provide commercial and contractual guidance on claims and dispute matters.
  • Support the early identification and resolution of commercial issues.
  • Manage contractual correspondence and formal notifications.
