Internal Auditor

Leeds | Hybrid Working | Permanent

Salary up to £43,000 depending on experience + benefits

Closing date for applications: 20 November

Looking beyond the obvious?

We are looking for an Internal Auditor who enjoys understanding how businesses really work, asks thoughtful questions and follows issues through to understand what matters.

At NG Bailey, Internal Audit is about more than checking compliance. We provide clear, balanced insight into risks and controls, helping colleagues understand where improvement is needed and make informed decisions.

You will join a small, highly visible Internal Audit team and work across a broad range of operational, commercial and corporate activities. The role offers real variety, regular engagement with stakeholders and the opportunity to make a visible contribution while continuing to develop your audit experience.

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:

As Internal Auditor, you will support the delivery of our Internal Audit plan and take ownership of assigned areas of audit work. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the planning and delivery of Internal Audit reviews, helping to understand the key risks and where our work should focus
  • Taking ownership of assigned audit work, including stakeholder discussions, walkthroughs, testing and documenting conclusions
  • Assessing whether controls are appropriately designed and working effectively in practice
  • Analysing evidence, asking the right questions and following issues through to understand what has happened, why it matters and whether there are wider implications
  • Developing clear, evidence based findings and discussing practical opportunities for improvement with stakeholders
  • Maintaining clear audit working papers and managing assigned work to agreed quality standards and timescales
  • Working closely with the wider Internal Audit team, sharing what you are seeing and using judgement to help determine what really matters
  • Following up agreed actions and contributing ideas to improve our approach, reporting and use of data and technology

What we are looking for:

You will have relevant experience in Internal Audit, External Audit, Risk, Controls Assurance or Compliance. You should already be comfortable conducting reviews, testing controls, identifying findings and communicating recommendations, while still having the appetite to learn and develop.

You will also bring:

  • A good practical understanding of risk and controls, with the ability to review evidence and reach sound, balanced conclusions
  • A curious and questioning mindset, with the confidence to follow things through when something does not make sense
  • The ability to identify what really matters within a lot of information and explain its significance clearly and proportionately
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with people at different levels
  • The confidence to challenge constructively while listening well and remaining open to different perspectives
  • Good judgement and a sense of perspective, recognising that not every exception represents a significant issue
  • An organised and proactive approach, with a willingness to take ownership and manage work to agreed timescales
  • A commitment to learning from feedback and continuing to develop your Internal Audit skills
  • High levels of integrity, objectivity and professionalism.

Why join NG Bailey?

This is an opportunity to broaden your experience within a complex engineering and services business where Internal Audit has access across the Group. You will work on varied reviews, build your commercial understanding and contribute insight that helps the business improve.

You will join a collaborative team that values curiosity, sound judgement and constructive challenge. We will support your continued development while giving you the responsibility and exposure to make a visible contribution.

Benefits include:

  • 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays with an option to Buy/Sell additional days
  • Pension with a leading provider and up to 8% employer contribution
  • Personal Wellbeing and Volunteer Days
