Field Manager – Substation Maintenance & Civil Works

Freedom Network Services has an exciting opportunity for a Field Manager to support the delivery of civil and electrical works across our Northern Powergrid Substation Maintenance contract. Covering North Yorkshire and South Yorkshire, you will be responsible for managing multiple work sites, leading operational teams, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

This role is ideally suited to someone with experience working within utility, civils, or electrical environments who has a strong understanding of distribution substations and site management.

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:
  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of civil and electrical works across multiple substation sites.
  • Lead and oversee site teams, subcontractors and franchise partners to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
  • Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with Freedom and Northern Powergrid standards, policies and procedures.
  • Plan, structure and coordinate site activities, resources, materials and equipment.
  • Monitor site progress against programme and provide updates to Project Managers and key stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary site-based point of contact for clients, customers, landowners and third parties.
  • Ensure all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSQE) requirements are met at all times.
  • Maintain accurate site records, risk assessments, inspections and project documentation.
  • Support project quotations and scheme costing activities where required.
  • Investigate and report accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Promote Freedom's AIMED values and drive continuous improvement across all activities.
  • Support the induction, development and performance management of operational teams.
What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working within the utilities, power distribution or infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge and experience of civil construction, groundworks and building activities.
  • Experience working within or around electricity distribution substations.
  • Previous experience supervising operational teams and subcontractors.
  • Strong organisational, planning and programming skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • CDM site management experience.
  • Emergency First Aid qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working on Northern Powergrid contracts.
  • SMSTS qualification.
  • NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • NRSWA accreditation.
  • DNO authorisations.
  • Experience managing multiple projects across a regional framework.
