Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) Advisor

Summary

Freedom Networks is seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) Advisor to join our team based in the Inverness region. Reporting into the regional Health & Safety Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the operational teams and ensuring compliance with company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards across our projects.

 

Freedom Networks works in partnership with Distribution Network Operators, deliver end-to-end solutions including survey, inspection, design, construction, commissioning, handover and planned maintenance services.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated SHEQ professional to influence positive change, drive continuous improvement and support the delivery of safe, sustainable and high-quality operations.

 

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:

  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with company SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Monitor operational activities for SHEQ compliance, escalating significant findings to the Operations Director and Divisional SHEQ Manager as appropriate.
  • Promote and develop a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.
  • Provide practical SHEQ advice and support to project and operational teams.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Lead and support accident and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and closed out effectively.
  • Liaise with the Group SHEQ team to maintain consistency of standards and best practices across the business.
  • Attend and present at client SHEQ meetings, forums and reviews, communicating key outcomes and lessons learned across the region.
  • Monitor and assess contractor performance to ensure compliance with SHEQ requirements.
  • Maintain and develop professional competence through continuous professional development.
  • Collaborate with central SHEQ teams and operational stakeholders to address specific business challenges and improvement initiatives.
  • Actively contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the SHEQ Management System.

What we’re looking for:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential

  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Good understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to influence and support operational teams in delivering SHEQ objectives.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Understanding of HSG47 and underground utility avoidance.
  • Environmental management knowledge and experience.
  • Experience working within the electrical utilities sector.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • IOSH Membership (Chartered or actively working towards Chartered status).
  • Environmental qualification, such as the NEBOSH Environmental Certificate.
